With the booming popularity of self-driving tours, outdoor camping and long-distance road trips alongside the rapid popularization of new energy vehicles across China, car refrigerators—once exclusive premium configurations for luxury vehicles—have become mainstream gear for ordinary car owners. Over the past few years, in-vehicle refrigerators have evolved from niche refitting accessories into daily necessities for family cars, outdoor vehicles and commercial trucks, driving steady, high-quality development of the whole industry.
As vehicle consumption upgrades, car buyers demand far more than basic transportation; comfortable, refined and high-quality in-car living has turned into a core pursuit. Temperatures inside parked cars can hit over 60°C under intense summer sunlight, making it impossible to keep drinks, fruits and perishables fresh at ambient temperature. Car refrigerators perfectly fill the market gap for low-temperature onboard storage.
Domestic car fridge market has maintained double-digit annual growth for consecutive years with rising shipment volumes. Consumer groups have expanded greatly beyond high-end business users, falling into four core categories: family parents focusing on parent-child travel, outdoor enthusiasts keen on road trips and camping, long-haul truck drivers, and business travelers pursuing premium riding experience, covering sedans, SUVs, MPVs and heavy-duty trucks.
The industry has formed a dual-track development model: factory pre-installed fridges and aftermarket portable car fridges. Built-in OEM fridges are tailor-fitted for mid-to-high-end new energy cars with seamless interior layout; while portable aftermarket models dominate the market thanks to affordable pricing, easy installation and flexible capacity options, compatible with both new and used vehicles of all types.
Looking ahead, continuous technical upgrades reshape the industry. Inverter energy-saving technology, intelligent battery protection, mobile APP connectivity, lightweight design and anti-shock structure have become mainstream standard configurations. Driven by outdoor camping and off-grid EV camping needs, low-power, solar-chargeable and large-capacity deep-freeze fridges are the core R&D direction for manufacturers.
No longer a luxurious optional add-on, car refrigerators greatly improve travel comfort, safeguard food freshness during journeys. With sustained growth of outdoor activities, the car refrigerator industry will keep innovating to deliver healthier and more convenient onboard living solutions for global drivers.
